September Logotech-4-Good Recipients Announced

In October, Registered Nurse Stephanie Krall along with other RNs and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners will take their first trip overseas as part of Nurses En Route. They will work with doctors, nurses and midwives to teach simple techniques to ensure the health of new mothers and their newborns in Mozambique.

Logotech selected Nurses En Route as the September Logotech-4-Good recipient. They will pick and receive their products before they leave.

The Colorado-based nonprofit is in its infancy stage itself. Krall and her partners set up the organization in Summer 2018. The husband of a friend — also a nurse — nominated them for the Logotech-4-Good grant.

Krall is a pediatric and neonatal intensive care (NICU) nurse. She started her career in public health. Krall first became interested in working with delivery centers in poor countries at the age of 18, following a humanitarian aid trip to Haiti.

Helping Babies Breathe program

She also learned of the Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), Essential Care for Every Baby, and Essential Care for Small Babies programs. These simple, evidence-based programs help ensure the survival of babies — including premature births — and their mothers, Krall said.

While there are other groups working across the globe, Krall wanted to work with an organization that was not affiliated with any religion, and which she had confidence in how it handles fundraising, finances, and its donor thank yous.

That is why she chose to start her organization — to know exactly how those issues are addressed. "I will create one that I am proud to be a part of," she said.

She also wants to ensure the training, including training the trainers, is done in a sensitive way. "We will be culturally sensitive and let them know we are not there to 'Westernize' their medicine," Krall said.
