Branding giveaways with your logo, handing out custom USB drives to your customers, these are not new concepts in the world of branding and marketing. And if they have stuck around for so long, they are obviously a cost-efficient way of advertising your business. But is branding a bunch of items with your company logo all this strategy is about? Well, obviously, if I am putting the question this way, the answer is 'no'. Ah, BMW, not only a great vehicle with an impeccable reputation, but also one of the strongest cultural icons of the past century. For me it's also the car on which I took my first driving lessons. Well, it was an old 80s model and steering the wheel was as good as any workout, but it was still a BMW. But do you know the story of this great brand? Or even what the BMW acronym stands for? Here's a little hint: it's not Broke My Wallet, Beautiful Mechanic Wonder nor Brings More Women, though none of these are entirely...

jurvetson / Foter / CC BY The annual TED conferences bring together the world's most fascinating thinkers who are challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. Here we introduce you to four of the best sermons on technology. #1 Cars talking behind our back? It's a good idea Driving is a very dangerous activity (the leading cause of death in those aged between 16 and 19) yet most of us insulate ourselves in a bubble once we get inside our cars. For many of us the whole point of using a car is to create our own personal...

Even if you love to drive, how far can you get without music bursting out of your car stereo, or gently humming, if you like? Imagine mile after mile, strung as if on some invisible sky necklace, endless... Monotonous scenery and small towns and stagnant life reveal themselves before your eyes. And there's nothing but more of the same for hours on end. Of course, your company might be quite pleasant, but after discussing college, family, and world affairs for some time, what else is there left to talk about? You should always have your favorite tunes stored on a USB flash...

So much has been written about the late Steve Jobs and the miraculous inventions (iPod, the iPhone and the iPad tablet) that have transformed our lives. All were spearheaded by Jobs himself and Apple, the company with the deceptively simply name but the oh SO innovative consumer electronics that he founded in 1976. As of May 2013, Apple maintains 408 retail stores in 14 countries, as well as the online Apple store and iTunes store. Apple is also the largest publicly traded corporation in the world by market capitalization. And in May 2013, Apple entered the top 10 of the fortune...

Computers were at an embryonic stage when I was at school. We used to mock a kid who went off to practise on one. He's now probably a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, having had a head start over us! Young people today have no idea how easy their life is. If they want to steal the work of somebody, they can copy and paste a piece of text that probably has SOME vague correlation to the truth! We, on the other hand, had to copy the answer of another kid. And it was probably the WRONG answer anyway. If we had to research...

It is fun to see how often those visions were way off the mark and how sometimes they turn out to be remarkably close to the reality they depict. Of course, sci-fi movies are not all about visions of the future. Sometimes they offer an alternative reading of the world we live in, and sometimes they just flaunt hot alien chicks and the latest technical effects.

Either way, if you are a fan of the sci-fi genre, 2013 will not disappoint you. A highly anticipated sequel, and a few new titles, there are enough of them to keep you busy this summer. And don'tworry I promise there will be no spoilers.
